Microprocessor smart cards are the ultimate multitasking card technology. The microprocessor embedded in the card allows it to store and manipulate data like a computer. This means that they can be read remotely via radio frequency as well as by physically inserting the card into a reader. The same information can be accessed by using either method. The contact interface card is built to ISO/IEC 7816 standards, while the contactless interface complies to ISO/IEC 14443 requirements.
