Rotating Trommel Screen

Rotating trommel screens are most often applied early in municipal solid waste sorting systems to screen out solid wastes of different sizes so they can be processed further. Waste is fed into the perforated cylindrical drum so that it can be separated into two or more outputs determined by size. Basically, materials smaller than the openings in the screen will fall through cylinder as it rotates, while larger materials tumble through to the other end of the drum.

Holes of different sizes are applied for the sorting of materials of different types. For example, inert materials such as sand, cullet, ceramic, and stone will be sorted with holes less than 80mm in diameter, recyclable plastics will have a range from 80 to 200mm, and the size of paper and large plastics is within a range of 200~300mm.

Application
  • First screening process for waste sorting systems
  • Pretreatment for windsifters and ballistic screening
  • Sorting waste by size
  • Separating organics from mixed waste
  • Splitting bags of waste materials
Design

The trommel screen features a robust steel frame and a drum shell with tracks to aid with feeding and screening. It is also equipped with a hood to prevent dust from escaping and can even be connected to a dust collector.

The center of the trommel screen is a rotating cylindrical drum constructed from steel plate and section steel, welded together and configured with a running rim for guiding and support.

A friction wheel is used to drive the drum. This ensures quiet operation and stable performance.

Bearing and drive

All drives, supports, and guide rollers feature plastic coated contact surfaces that extend the service life of the components and ensure the screening equipment runs smoothly even at high speeds.

The rotating drum is supported by four wheels, two of which provide rotating force, while the other two are there for support. These wheels have diameters ranging from 300 to 500mm and widths of approximately 140mm.

The rotary screens can be produced in different sizes including:
1.800 X 7.000 mm
2.000 X 8.000 mm
2.500 X 12.000 mm
3.000 X 12.000 mm
