Gabion Cage / Wire Basket / Mesh Basket
Gabion baskets are rectangular boxes formed with double twisted hexagonal steel mesh. The gabion cages can then be filled with stones to create a solid structure that is permeable to allow for proper drainage.
Gabion baskets are arranged in cells with diaphragms (usually spaced at 1 or 3 meter intervals). The diaphragms reinforce the structure in addition to the built in reinforcement along the edges of the mesh. The basket edges feature wire mesh that is of a thicker diameter than the rest of the structure.
Internal wires are used to reinforce the outer wires of the basket to prevent bulging during filling.

Galvanized wire meets EN 10244-2 and old BS 443
Tensile strength between 380N/mm2 and 550N/mm2 according to BS 1052.
Tolerances
he hexagonal, double-twisted wire mesh opening shall not exceed ±10% of the nominal dimension.
Gabion Baskets and mattresses are widely used for many applications such as retaining walls and riverbank maintenance structures.

Packing
For easy handling and shipping, the gabion baskets are shipped folded flat. A color stripe applied on the side of each folded gabion identifies the size.
Loading
Usually, gabion baskets will be loaded into 40ft containers to minimize cost.
