PHPA (partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide) is a kind of drilling mud additive that is used for shale stabilization, viscosity modifying, friction reduction, fluid loss control and lubrication in both industrial and oil/gas drilling, and suitable for use in both fresh water and brines with high temperature.

Main Applications
Oil-displacing agent of oil field tertiary oil recovery

It can change the rheology of filled water, make the driving liquid more viscous, increase the efficiency of the water drive wave, lessen the permeability of the water phase in the ground layer, and allow water and oil to flow forward at even speed. It is primarily employed in tertiary oil recovery of oil fields in the aspect of oil production, and additional raw oil of around 100 to 150 tons can be produced by filling one ton of macromolecule polyacrylamide product.

Well drilling mud raw materials

It is used as a well drilling mud raw material adhesive in the exploration and development of oil fields as well as in the geological, water, and coal industries. It can extend the service life of drill bits, increase drilling speed and depth, decrease the plug risk during replacing drill, and control sloughing shale in well drilling. It can also be used as fracturing fluid additive, profile control and water plugging agent.

Flocculant

The polarity gene adsorbs the solid particles scattered in water, bridges between the particles and forms large aggregates, thus flocculating detritus and clay in drilling fluid.

Lubricant

It can be absorbed on the surface of metal or clay particles to form liquid film, converting friction on the solid surface into liquid frication. This lubricates drill bits and drills, therefore lowering the mud cake frication coefficient and reducing underground accidents.

Fluid loss additive

The hydrolysis degree is higher, the hydration group on the molecular chain is more, the hydration is better, and it changes from flocculant into fluid loss additive. In order to maintain a stable borehole and to keep filtrate invasion and damage to the pay zone at a minimum, drilling mud should be treated to make the cake's permeability as low as possible.
