Working Principle and Features

A diode laser is a solid-state laser produced by semiconductors to emit different wavelengths of lasers which are highly efficient due to minimal energy loss during generation. Diode lasers work on the principle of selective photothermolysis (SPTL) to target specific chromophores in the skin, such as melanin or blood. It destroys the chromophores by selectively heating them without injuring surrounding tissues.

The effect of selective photothermolysis of a diode laser depends on its wavelength. The 808nm diode laser has the deepest penetration level among all type of lasers and can displays superior absorption by melanin so it is suitable for hair removal. The 908nm diode laser can reach blood vessels to precisely target red blood cell oxyhemoglobin, so it is suitable for removing couperose skin.

Treatment and Recovery

The treatment cycle of diode lasers is shorter, and the efficacy of diode laser treatment is more significant as they are suitable for more types of hair and skin.

Common Applications

1. Permanent hair removal
2. Couperose skin(rosacea) removal
